Checkups
What happens at a checkup?
When you take your rabbit to the vet, typically the first thing they will do is weigh your rabbit to make sure that he's at a healthy weight for his age. If you're not sure of your rabbit's date of birth, they can also provide a date for you based on weight, development, and a few other factors. This date might not be exact, but it is accurate enough to go by. When the actual vet comes in, he or she may ask you some questions about your rabbit's behavior, daily schedule, feeding, etc. The vet will feel your rabbit's stomach, jaws, feet, and look into your rabbit's ears, nose, eyes, and also will take a look at your rabbit's teeth. You will also see your vet listening to your rabbits stomach, heartbeat, and lungs. The vet may also take a look at your rabbits bottom and privates to make sure everything looks healthy. A normal checkup will usually last about 15-20 minutes. At the end, your vet may discuss changes you may need to make in diet or lifestyle depending on what they observe in the checkup. They may also prescribe your rabbit with some medicine if needed. If all is well, a lot of vets will send you off with a pamphlet (if it's your 1st visit) and may want to schedule your next appointment.
